Home Improvement Tips: How To Soundproof a Door | Craftsman
If you have roommates who keep you up all night fighting and screaming and yelling while they play video games, and you’re trying to get some sleep because you’ve got to work in the morning, well, let me teach you how to soundproof your room.
And we’re going to start with your door. You see, back in the day, my friends used to play Tecmo Bowl all night long. And when I yelled at them and said, hey, guys, I have to get some sleep, they’d rag on me about being a loser responsible guy who had to get a job and go to work in the morning.
But I fixed their wagon, I soundproofed my whole room.
Let me show you how to do it.
Start with your door.
Take off the nob, and get some thick, rigid foam insulation.
Make sure you’re flush on all sides and then grab a couple of roughing nails, tag down your corners.
From there, grab your utility knife and cut off the excess.
All you have to do is trace the door.
So after you’ve scored it a bunch of times, just keep pulling up while holding down.
And that sound lets you know you got it.
But don’t take it all the way off.
The crease you have in the back, you want to bring your knife through that.
Put a few more tacks in it.
It’s just that simple, folks.
Do that to the rest of your room, put your door lock set back in.
That’s how you get it done.
